TAMPA (May 16, 2014) – Former USF standout women's basketball player Inga Orekhova's dream became reality Thursday, as Atlanta's WNBA franchise finalized its opening day roster, making Orekhova the first Ukrainian-born player to play in the Women's National Basketball Association.
Wearing the number 3 because 13 was already claimed, Orekhova could become the first player under Bulls' head coach Jose Fernandez to play in the WNBA as the Dream kick off their season tonight in Atlanta against the San Antonio Stars.
Orekhova became USF's highest draftee in April when the Dream selected her early in the second round, and 18th overall. Prior to the draft, Orekhova played three years with the Bulls, scoring 1,072 points and shooting 34 percent from beyond the arc.
Orekhova joins fellow rookie and former American Athletic Conference opponent Shoni Schimmel as one of three rookies on the opening day roster, and appeared in Atlanta's preseason game against New York, playing 13 minutes in a 63-58 win over the Liberty.
