TAMPA (Jan. 4, 2014) – USF finished its two-game Texas road trip in perfect fashion by getting past SMU, 76-62, Saturday at the newly renovated Moody Coliseum in Dallas.

Courtney Williams led three other Bulls in double figures with 14 points and senior center Akila McDonald stepped up with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Shalethia Stringfield gave USF a strong performance at point guard with 12 points and six assists, while Inga Orekhova continued her hot stretch of play with 10 points.  Orekhova tied her career-high with six 3-pointers and scored 18 points in USF’s 77-54 win at Houston on Tuesday.

USF (7-7, 2-1) was sharp from the free throw line, making 22 of 28 shots, and Stringfield went 8-for-8 from the charity stripe in her third double-digit scoring game of the season. USF also came to play on the defensive end, scoring 26 points off 19 SMU turnovers while improving to 2-0 all-time against the Mustangs (10-4, 1-2).

Freshman Ariadna Pujol scored six straight points as USF closed the first half with a 33-27 advantage. Williams scored four points to help USF start on a 10-5 run after the break before the Bulls put the game away in the final 12 minutes. Keena Mays led Houston with 26 points and her three-point play cut the deficit to 47-43, but USF answered back with a 9-0 run that pumped its lead back up to 13 with 9:33 remaining.

Akil Simpson, who finished with 12 points, became the 21st Mustang to pass the 1,000-point mark in the first half and added nine rebounds.

The Bulls return home for a two-game stint starting Tuesday, Jan. 7 against Temple at 7 p.m. USF faces its third ranked opponent this season Sunday, Jan. 13 at 3 p.m. when No. 7 Louisville visits the Sun Dome. Purchase tickets HERE
