Reid Sends Bulls to BIG EAST Semifinals
TAMPA - Junior Venicia Reid's goal in the 109th minute of the match gave the University of South Florida women's soccer team (12-4-3) a 1-0 win over No. 17 Georgetown at North Kehoe Field and send the Bulls to the BIG EAST semifinal for the first time in program history.
Reid took a feed after a throw in near the Bulls own end line. She dribbled the ball down the near side of the field and took a shot which eluded two Hoyas defenders and Georgetown keeper Jackie Desjardin to the far post at the 108:01 mark giving USF an impressive win for their postseason resume and more importantly advance.
The Bulls best chance of regulation came in the 12th minute of the match when Chelsea Klotz's shot hit off the crossbar and the rebound attempt from Gina Pacheco sailed over the high.
Keeper Nicole McClure was superb in goal for the Bulls making seven saves for her eighth shutout of the year.
On the match, USF was outshot 14-11 and only put two shots on goal, both of which came in overtime.
The win avenges a 3-1 loss dealt to the Bulls earlier this season by the Hoyas and adds a quality win over a top 20 RPI team to the Bulls postseason resume. The Bulls came into the match with an RPI of 46 and will likely move up thanks to the win.
USF will travel to Piscataway, New Jersey on Friday, Nov. 5 for a semifinal matchup with the No. 1 American Division seed Marquette. The Golden Eagles won the previous match with USF this season, 2-1, in Tampa, Fla. on Sept. 17. The game will be played on Rutgers' Yarack Field with game time is set for 7:30 p.m. ET. It will be broadcast live on CBS College Sports.
