Four other Bulls also moved on to the next round as David Aristil, Pascal Orelus, Reshaw Exilien and Shaniel Chambers all finished in the top 24 of their preliminary rounds to move on to the NCAA quarterfinals in their respective events.
Thomas finished second overall in the discus with a toss of 189-11 (57.90m) to move him on to the NCAA finals for the third-straight year. The senior has the third-best mark in the nation this year with his USF school record throw of 201-0.
Wise also earned a spot in the NCAA finals with his fourth-place finish in the long jump. Wise, who set the USF record at the Big East Championships earlier in May, posted a leap of 25-0.5 (7.36m) on his last attempt to vault him to fourth. It will be his first appearance at the national championships.
Aristil, a two-time All-American, finished fifth in the preliminaries of the 400m hurdles with a time of 50.86 to move on to the NCAA quarterfinals of the event, which will take place at 7:30 p.m. on May 25.
Also advancing out of the first rounds were a pair of Bulls in the 400m as junior Pascal Orelus and senior Reshaw Exilien finished 17th and 20th, respectively. Orelus posted his second-best time of the year with a 46.67 while Exilien clocked a 46.74. The 400m quarterfinals will be run at 6 p.m. on Friday.
Senior Shaniel Chambers rounded out the Bull quartet moving on to the NCAA quarterfinals as she finished second in her heat of the 800m to automatically qualify for the next round. Chambers posted a 2:07.50 to finish 18th overall and will run in the quarters at 7:15 p.m. on May 25.
Action resumes for USF at 11 a.m. on Friday with Nicole Smith in the pole vault. Other Bulls competing include Aristil, Exilien, Orelus and Chambers in the quarters, and Exilien and Dariel Jackson in the 200m prelims. a
