JACKSONVILLE - Senior David Aristil will make his third-straight appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships as he posted the fastest 400m hurdles time of the East Quarterfinals with his school record mark of 49.60. Aristil, already a two-time All-American, had the second-best time between both the East and West quarterfinals.
The senior outdid his previous PR and USF school record by three-tenths of a second (49.94). His mark also ties the fifth-best mark in the nation this season. Aristil finished fourth in the event in 2011 and fifth in 2010.
"David ran a really great race today," said head coach Warren Bye. "He's running his best at the right time and we know that he'll be ready for Des Moines."
Also competing on the second day of the NCAA Preliminaries was Dariel Jackson who clocked a 23.94 to finish 20th in the First Round and advance to Saturday's quarterfinal.
Aristil wasn't the only one setting school records on Friday as senior Pascal Orelus posted a 46.34 in the 400m quarterfinals, besting his own school record set earlier in May at the Big East Championships by a little over one-tenth of a second (46.46). Orelus just missed advancing to the NCAA semifinals by finishing 13th overall in the quarters.
The Bulls wrap up the third and final day of the NCAA East Prelims on Saturday with Jackson in the 200m quarterfinals, Drew Voltz in the pole vault, Marqueshia Stallworth in the triple jump, Allie Prendergast in the 5,000m and the men's 4x400m relay.
