O誰eal Becomes Third Bull to Earn Trip to Eugene

GREENSBORO, N.C. – University of South Florida freshman Matthew O’Neal became the third Bull to earn a spot at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships as he finished fifth in the triple jump at the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds, held at North Carolina A&T.

O’Neal posted a leap of 51-1.75 (15.59m) on his second attempt to earn his first career NCAA appearance. He will join Courtney Anderson (high jump) and Kevin Bell (long jump) at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., on June 6-8 for the national championships.

Also competing on the final day of the East Preliminary Rounds was senior Monique Williams, who just missed on qualifying for Eugene as she finished 13th in the triple jump (41-5.75/12.64m), with the top 12 advancing.

Senior Atasha Warren posted a season-best throw of 50-8 (15.44m) to finish 17th in the shot put while Marqueshia Stallworth finished 22nd in the triple with a leap of 40-6.75 (12.36m).

The Bulls will have a little under two weeks to prepare for the national meet, hosted by the University of Oregon (June 6-8, Hayward Field).
