TAMPA - Sara Nevins is considered as one of the best players in the nation for the second straight season.

USF's ace left-hander was one of 50 players named to the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Watch List that was released on Friday afternoon by USA Softball.

Nevins, a junior, was one of 11 finalists for the award last year and was a huge reason why the Bulls booked their first-ever trip to the Women's College World Series.

The Pinellas Park, Fla., native had a season to remember in the pitcher's circle, posting a 31-8 record and finishing third in the nation with a 1.12 earned run average. Nevins threw three no-hitters, including no-hitters in consecutive days, and posted one perfect game on the way to collecting NFCA Mideast All-Region honors and six Big East Pitcher of the Week awards to set a new league record.

Nevins made the preseason All-Big East Team while the No. 10 Bulls earned the top spot in the league's preseason coaches' poll. Nevins and the Bulls get their season started Friday, Feb. 8 at home against Marshall and head coach Ken Eriksen said Nevins is well prepared for another season of success.

"Nevins went and pitched this summer with the national team program and learned a lot from the catcher that she had," Eriksen said. "She can throw the offspeed pitches in any situation. She proved that to herself last year in the NCAA Regionals up in Gainesville that she can throw that changeup in crucial situation."

The top 25 finalists for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Award will be announced April 10. The finalist list gets down to 10 on May 8 and the final three will be revealed May 22. The player of the year will be named on May 28 prior to the start of the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City.
