CLEARWATER - The USF softball team ran into a red hot pitcher in James
Madison’s Jailyn Ford and fell to the Dukes by a score of 1-0 at the Eddie C.
Moore Complex in Clearwater, Fla.
James Madison jumped out to an early lead after Ford helped
her own cause with an RBI single in the first to give the Dukes a 1-0 lead.
That would be all Ford would need as she was masterful in
the circle all afternoon. She only gave up two hits throughout the game, an
infield single to freshman Lee Ann Spivey in the first inning and a single to D’Anna
Devine in the seventh.
She also had six strikeouts and didn’t give up a walk in
route to her third win of the season.
Sara Nevins got the start for USF and was solid for the
Bulls after a shaky start to the game. She gave up only one run and had eight
strikeouts while scattering seven hits. Despite her strong outing Nevins came away
with the loss to fall to 2-2 on the year.
The loss drops the Bulls to 6-6 on the season. They will
look to bounce back quickly as they take on UC Davis at approximately 6 p.m.
this evening for their fourth game of the NFCA Lead-Off Classic.
