VILLANOVA, Pa. - Kourtney Salvarola hit a three-run homer in the ninth inning for the second time in less than a week as USF defeated Villanova, 3-0, to complete the series sweep on the road.
The Bulls went into extra innings locked in a scoreless tie for the second straight game before Salvarola’s late heroics.
Salvarola now leads the BIG EAST with 11 home runs and finished the series with three homers and eight RBIs.
Three different pitchers played for USF with Sara Nevins picking up her second win of the day and 13th this season after pitching 2.1 innings in relief. Nevins pitched out of a number of jams including a bases loaded situation in the eighth, when she got Carly Danek to pop up to first base.
With the win the Bulls complete their first BIG EAST series sweep of the season and improve to 27-11 overall and 5-1 in conference play.
They will have the weekend off before a mid-week double header against St. John’s. First pitch is slated for 12:30 p.m. at the USF Softball Stadium.
