CHICAGO - The USF softball team fell to DePaul in game two of Saturday’s doubleheader in extra innings, 2-1, at Cacciatore Stadium in Chicago.

Erica Nunn and DePaul pitcher Kristen Verdun were locked in a pitcher’s duel throughout the majority of the game, as it was scoreless heading into the sixth inning.

DePaul broke through with a solo home run by Staci Bonezek in the bottom of the sixth, but the Bulls (36-13, 14-2 BIG EAST) would rally in the seventh.

Kaitlyn Santo singled to center field with two outs to score Stephanie Juergens from second and tie the game at one. It was only the third hit of the season for Santo and her fourth run batted in.

After a scoreless eighth for USF, the Blue Demons loaded the bases with one out for Samantha Dodd, who singled home the game-winning run.

Sara Nevins was stuck with the loss while Nunn ended up with a no-decision after going 5 1/3 innings, allowing only four hits and one earned run.

The rubber match of the series will take place at 11 a.m. (CT) tomorrow. USF has yet to drop a series in conference play and will look to keep that streak alive with a win tomorrow.

After tomorrow’s series finale the Bulls travel to Seton Hall for a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 23 in South Orange, N.J.
