Valentine, Bulls in Fifth After Round 1

The USF men's golf team, led by its crop of young talent, sits in fifth place as a team after one round at the Invittional at Kiawah in Kiawah Island, S.C.

Overall, the Bulls trail Florida, Houston, College of Charleston and UAB.

"I am proud of the fight that our guys showed down the stretch today," head coach Chris Malloy said. "Unfortunately, we dug ourselves too deep of a hole to challenge for the lead in the first round."

Individually, USF was led by sophomore Trey Valentine who shot an opening round 73 (1-over) and is tied for fifth place.

The Bulls' new players Chase Koepka, Jeffrey Meltzer and Richard James all contributed counting scores. Koepka turned in a score of 74 (2-over), while Meltzer and James recorded first round 78s (6-over).

"We have two more rounds to go, and I look forward to seeing how our guys come out and compete the next two days," Malloy said.

The Bulls continue play at the Ocean Course in Kiawah Monday. For complete first round results, click HERE.
