Rick Kittelstad is still playing strong and Branden Collins stormed back from a tough debut during Monday's second round of the USF Invitational.

Kittelstad continued to show his leadership as a senior by shooting a 75 and staying in the top 15, while the Bulls are in sixth place among 17 teams. Kittelstad began the event at Lake Lovita Country Club in Dade City by firing a 69 that had him third.

"I may be more proud of his 75 today," head coach Chris Malloy said. "He had some things not go his way in the beginning of the round. He battled that to finish strong and help the team."

Branden, one of USF's two star freshmen, shook of an 82 in the first round and fired a 66 that took him from 84th to a tie for 34th entering Tuesday's final round.

"It was great to see Branden bounce back. It shows his heart," Malloy said. "We knew that he wasn't going to have two bad rounds in a row. That is as solid of a round of golf as we've seen in while. That was a positive sign for our team."

Junior Devin Hernandez remained in the top 25 by improving his first-round 74 by two shots. Freshman Trey Valentine is in a tie for 34th after shooting a 76 on Monday.

USF improved its team scorecard by six shots in the second round and Malloy said it could be even better by avoiding a couple of things.

"We still had way too many unforced errors on our part and mental mistakes," he said. "That's what is holding us back right now and we hope to go out Tuesday and eliminate that."
