The University of South Florida men's tennis team successfully rebounded from its first loss of 2011 last weekend with a dominant win over South Alabama on Saturday at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts. The Bulls dropped the Jaguars 7-0 to improve to 3-1 on the season.

“I was glad to see that we took the doubles point, which is always important,” USF head coach Don Barr said. “We looked sharp in doubles, and it carried over into the singles matches. I liked how we put the match away early. Overall, it was an excellent effort on our part.”

After claiming the doubles point, USF quickly grabbed singles wins in three matches to secure the victory. Romain Deridder claimed the first point at No. 3 when his opponent, Christian Kuehne, withdrew with an injury in the second set down 6-3, 3-0. Deridder moves to 4-0 in dual match play this season with the win.

Juan Carlos Acuna Gerard was next in the win column with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph over Jairo Seur at No. 6, showing no ill effects of an exhausting loss last weekend vs. Florida Atlantic. Lucas Jovita also rebounded from a loss last weekend with a 6-2, 6-1 dismantling of Romain Bocaert at No. 1 to secure the match.

Yannick Yoshizawa was the fourth singles winner, keeping his 2011 slate unblemished with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Hanno Bartsch at No. 5. In the No. 4 spot, Federico Sabogal also remained unbeaten with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Duaw Kruger. The last match to finish was Wael Kilani’s 6-2, 6-7 (1-7), 10-5 win over Alex Bernard in the No. 2 spot.

The Bulls made quick work of the Jaguars in doubles play earlier in the day, winning all three matches to take the point. Kilani and Sabogal dispatched Kuehne and Seur 8-2 at No. 2 followed by Jovita and Adderley winning 8-4 over Bernard and Bartsch at No. 1 and Yoshizawa and Deridder edging Bocaert and Kruger 8-6 at No. 2.

The Bulls return to action on Saturday, March 5 when Tulane visits Tampa at 12 p.m. ET.
