The Bulls plan to get aggressive after a tough second round Friday at the NCAA Central Regional in Columbus, Ohio.
The Big East champion USF women's golf team started the day in 11th place and wound up in 17th after shooting 37 over as a team on the Scarlet Course at Ohio State. The top eight teams advance to the NCAA Championship and the Bulls will start Saturday's final round 22 shots away from No. 16 Ohio State, which is in eighth at 36 over. No. 3 Southern Cal leads the event with a 12-over score.
"Tomorrow will be about playing aggressive and seeing how many birdie putts we can have," USF head coach Marci Kornegay said.
Kelli Pry posted two of USF's seven total birdies in a second round after the senior endured a rough start that featured a 10-over score on the front nine. Her birdie on No. 16 got her to even par on the back nine and she headed back to the clubhouse with an 18 over total score through two rounds.
Shena Yang has the best total score of any Bull at 13 over and the junior also played strong on the back nine at 1 over. Big East Player of the Year Christina Miller's 80 was USF's best score of the day and got the sophomore to 15 over for the tournament.
USF started the day one shot outside of the top eight at 21 over and mistakes plagued USF in a second round that saw each Bull card at least one double bogey.
"If it's a bad swing day you'd better find a way to score and we didn't," Kornegay said.
