The Bulls kept their top-10 streak alive Tuesday afternoon with Shena Yang serving as the team's saving grace.
Yang's 4-under 68 was the best score on the course in the final round of the Knights and Pirates Invitational, and it catapulted her from a tie for 43rd all the way up to a tie for 11th by the time the event came to a close at Suntree Country Club in Melbourne.
The junior's production helped USF finish in eighth place in the final event before the Big East Championship. The No. 42 Bulls have finished in the top 10 of every event they've competed in this season.
"I'm happy for Shena. I know how much shooting 4 under means to her," head coach Marci Kornegay said.
Yang's 68 marked a new season high for the Tampa native and it was impressive how she accomplished the feat. Yang started the round by making pars on the first four holes and posting two birdies before her only true blemish of the day, a bogey, on No. 9. The former Wharton High School standout collected three more birdies on the back nine to improve on her second round by 10 shots.
"She was in a zone and when players enter their zone, you don't say a word, you just clap," Kornegay said.
Kornegay was eager to see how the Bulls would respond after they dug themselves into a large hole after 36 holes. USF stepped up Tuesday and improved its second round score by four strokes.
"We have plenty of things to work on to prepare for Big East and I'm excited to narrow our focus to that one event," Kornegay said.
The Big East Championship will take place April 22-24 in Celebration, Fla.
