Williams Gains Valuable Experience at USA Juniors

BLOOMINGTON -- University of South Florida freshman Kelli Williams gained valuable experience Friday night competing in the 1,500m at the 2012 USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in Bloomington, Ind.

Williams clocked a 4:42.18 to finish 18h overall in the preliminary rounds and missed advancing by just  six spots. Being able to have the experience to compete against the nation's best is something Williams will be able to call upon when she returns to USF in the fall.

The Trinity, Fla., native advanced to the junior national meet after posting a season-best time of 4:34.81 at the FSU Relays, which was almost four seconds better than the qualifying standard for the meet in Indiana.

USF still has another competitor in play at the meet as fellow freshman standout Justin Osking will take on the discus on Sunday. Osking's personal best discus mark this season got him into junior national competition with almost a foot to spare. The Fort Pierce, Fla., native's throw of 165-3 (50.36 m) helped him finish in third at the USF Collegiate on April 6. Osking finished his freshman season off strong by scoring for USF at the Big East Outdoor Championships in May with an eighth-place throw of 161-5 (49.19m).
