TAMPA - Another one of USF's talented players has a chance to continue his baseball career as a pro.
Catcher Andrew Longley signed a free agent contract with the Detroit Tigers on Friday, making him the fourth Bull to join a major league team since the 2012 MLB First-Year Player Draft.
Longley recently capped off his USF career by finishing second on the team in home runs with six in 2012. The Tampa native logged in 48 starts this past season and heads to the pro level with 116 collegiate starts to his credit.
Longley's stellar results while working with USF pitchers certainly helped grab the attention of pro scouts. The Tampa native played a big hand in helping the Bulls' pitching staff finish first in the Big East with a 3.53 earned run average and seven shutouts.
Reliever Austin Adams was the first Bull to go pro this month when he was drafted in the eighth round by the Angels. Right-hander Derrick Stultz was next to go when he was selected in the 14th round by Arizona and ace left-hander Andrew Barbosa capped off the draft for the Bulls when he went in the 36th round to the Diamondbacks.
