TAMPA – University of South Florida head coach George Kiefer and his staff have added seven newcomers to the men’s soccer team for the 2009 season.
“We are extremely happy with the student-athletes that we have added this year,” Kiefer said. “We are looking forward to working with these guys throughout the course of their careers. We are fortunate to have recruited a class full of players who are great athletes and tremendous people.”
The class of 2009-10 includes: Alex Brisbane, MF/F, Lincoln Community School, Accra, Ghana; Shawn Chin, MF, Boston College, Miami, Fla.; Ashani Fairclough, D/MF, Wolmer’s Boys High, Portmore, Jamaica; Kevin Olali, MF/F, Plano East High, Plano, Texas; Carlos Rivero, D, Caravovo, Venezuela; Hasani Sinclair, F, American Heritage High; Alex Spock, GK, Land O Lakes High, Land-O-Lakes, Fla.
The Bulls add three Florida natives, one Texan and three international players to its already diverse roster.
The following is a list of the 2009-10 USF men's soccer newcomers:
Hasani Sinclair, F, American Heritage High, Coral Springs, Fla.
Hasani Sinclair was named the Florida Gatorade Player of the Year in 2009. The 6-foot-1, 160-pound forward from American Heritage High School recorded 47 goals and 14 assists in his senior season, leading them to the Class 2A state championship. A three-time South Florida Sun-Sentinel Small School Player of the Year, he was also named to the U.S. Soccer Developmental Academy League Southeast Starting XI in 2008. Sinclair is a member of the U.S. U-18 Men’s National Team that won a gold medal at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival in 2009. He also attended the Lisbon International Tournament and competed with the U.S. U-20 National Team in the Copa Chivas Tournament in 2008.
Ashani Fairclough, D/MF, Wolmer’s Boys High, Greater Portmore, Jamaica
Ashani Fairclough is a defender/midfielder from Greater Portmore, Jamaica. He attended Wolmer’s Boys High School and was a member of the 2009 Jamaican U-20 National Team. He served as captain of the 2007-08 Jamaican U-17 team and competed in CONCACAF U-17 World Cup Qualifying in 2008. He is 6-foot-2 and weighs 165 pounds.
Shawn Chin, MF, Boston College, Miami, Fla.
Shawn Chin is a junior transfer from Boston College. A midfielder from Miami, he played at Felix Varela High School. The 5-foot-8, 150-pounder attended Boston College in 2007-08. As an Eagle, he had three goals, two assists and eight points over 21 games in his freshman campaign. As a sophomore, he mirrored his freshman year scoring three goals and dishing out two assists over 21 games. He was named to the All-ACC Freshman Team in 2007. He was also named to U.S. U-20 Team in February 2008.
Carlos Rivero, D, Colegio Los Robles, Carabobo, Venezuela
Carlos Rivero is a 5-foot-11, 155-pound defender from Carabobo, Venezuela. He attended Colegio Los Robles and played for Hdad. Gallega de Valencia club team. Rivero was a member of the Venezuela U-15 National Team in 2006 and captained the Venezuelan U-17 National Team that competed in the CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifying Tournament, in Chile, in 2009.
Kevin Olali, MF/F, Plano East High, Plano, Texas
Kevin Olali is a 5-foot-8 140 pound midfielder/forward from Plano, Texas. He attended Plano East High School and is a member of the Ayses Soccer Club, the North Texas State Cup Champions in 2007 and 2006. He was also a member of the U.S. U-17 National Team in 2006.
Alex Brisbane, F, Lincoln Community School, Accra, Ghana
Alex Brisbane is from Accra, Ghana. The 5-foot-8, 140-pound forward attended Lincoln Community School. He was a member of the Liberty FC U-20 Team and also competed with FC Mania.
Alex Spock, GK, Land-O-Lakes High, Land-O-Lakes, Fla.
Alex Spock is 6-foot-1, 180-pounds from Land-O-Lakes, Fla. The Land-O-Lakes High School goalkeeper was named to the All-Pasco County First Team as a senior.
The Bulls finished the season as the 2008 BIG EAST Champions, including a perfect 8-0-2 record at home. During the NCAA tournament, the Bulls beat Harvard, 2-1, in the second round, and then defeated UNC Greensboro, 3-1 in penalty kick’s, in the Sweet 16 to advance to the NCAA Elite Eight.
