Women's Tennis Opens NCAA Tournament Saturday

TAMPA, MAY 11, 2017 – The University of South Florida women's tennis team returns to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2014 Saturday and will face Miami at the Ring Tennis Tennis Complex in Gainesville. With a high chance of rain in the area, the anticipated morning match between USF and Miami will begin at 9 a.m.

USF (15-10) earned an automatic bid to the tournament after securing the American Athletic Conference title April 22. The Bulls carry momentum from six consecutive wins to end the season.

USF is led by all-conference members Ana Roman Dominguez (Spain) and Juliana Cardoso (Brazil) and look to advance to the second round for the first time since 2007.

Scouting the Opponent

No. 28 Miami (12-11) is led by nationally-ranked singles players Sinead Lohan at No. 21 and freshman Estela Perez-Somarriba at No. 40.

USF and Miami will meet for the first time since 2012 and the Hurricanes came away with a 5-2 victory. The Bulls hold a 3-41 all-time series record.

Head coach Cristina Moros will be in her second year at the helm of the program after leading USF to an impressive 17-7 season in 2016.
