TAMPA - Former University of South Florida standout Dominique Jones has been named to the NBA's Hang Time Blog All-Tournament Team and has continuously been praised for his performances in Summer League play.

"Dallas guard Dominique Jones was very impressive. He is very athletic, built really strong and can get to the hoop," wrote NBA.com's Art Garcia, who was covering Summer League action in Las Vegas. "He will be a tough defender for the Mavs and could be a key piece off the bench. He seems like a hard worker and I left Vegas thinking very highly of his future."

Jones' Bio Page

In five games, Jones finished the Las Vegas summer league with 16.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 0.8 steals in 32.2 minutes per game. Jones' 16.6 points in Vegas were the 12th-best average by all players.

NBA.com Rookie Ladder
Jones is currently listed as fourth, and moving up, on the NBA.com's Rookie Ladder, a free-flowing, constantly updated chart that ranks the 2010-11 rookies. If a rookie plays well, he climbs the ladder. Play poorly, and he'll slide down a rung ... or two or three.

The Rookie Ladder website says, "Jones was one of the biggest revelations, and he was named to the All-Tournament team after a very impressive Summer League. He was aggressive, got to the hoop and proved to be a great defender. In his matchup with John Wall, Jones held the top pick to 4-for-19 shooting."

NBA.com Performer of the Day
On Thursday, July 15, Jones earned performer of the day honors from NBA.com's Art Garcia, who was covering Summer League action in Las Vegas.

Garcia's post from Day 7, Thursday, July 15 says:
Performance of the Day: Mavericks rookie Dominique Jones spent of good deal of Day 7 guarding John Wall, and Dallas' first-rounder more than held his own against Washington's much-ballyhooed top pick.

"I'm a good defender and offense can be defense as well," said Jones, the 25th pick who outscored Wall 28-21. "It's just about competing and making things happen out here. John Wall is a good player. Me and him are on the verge of trying to up our game in the NBA."

Jones' strong suit is getting to the rim. The solidly-built 6-foot-4 guard from South Florida has piled up 38 free-throw attempts through four games, and has scored at least 19 points three times.

The decision to have Jones guard Wall was somewhat surprising, considering the Mavs have lightning-quick point guard Roddy Beaubois. Wall tried to force the action, but made only 4-for-19 shots in the Wizards' win. Jones knocked down 9-for-17 from the floor, most coming in close.

"I know I have to be aggressive," he said. "With Roddy out there, I know I have to tone it down sometimes a little bit. But I know when I get to the team they're going to expect me to come out and be aggressive. Do what I do, get in the lane, dish it off, make good passes. They're going to expect me to do that."
