Diaczynsky, Holifield, and Robinson all post points in the hammer throw
HOUSTON, MAY 12, 2017 – The University of South Florida started the 2017 American Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday.
The Bulls earned their first points of the championship when senior Bernicia Holifield (Tallahassee, Fla.) finished seventh in the women's hammer throw (179-7).
USF then netted another five points in the men's hammer throw when junior Zach Diaczynsky (Naples, Fla.) placed sixth (179-9) and sophomore Bruce Robinson (Little Falls, N.Y.) finished seventh. Diaczynsky's distance was a new personal-best and the fifth-highest mark in program history.
Sophomore Raekwon Scott (DeLand, Fla.) finished day one in fifth with 3,633 points. Of the five events, Scott placed third in the 100m dash (11.15), long jump (23-5.5), and high jump (6-4.75) events.
Sophomore and Jacksonville native Chelsea Francis (23.91) also earned a spot in the 200m dash finals on Sunday.
