Fernandes Leads Bulls on 36-Hole Day at NC State

RALEIGH, N.C., APRIL 14, 2017 – Cristian DiMarco got USF off to a hot start with a 3-under 68 in the opening round and Rigel Fernandes followed suit in the afternoon at the Wolfpack Spring Open on Friday.
Fernandes’ 68 in the second round included an eagle on the par-5, 631-yard 11th hole and his stellar score jumped the senior up 21 spots to a tie for 16th at 2-under. DiMarco (T42, +3) collected all seven of his birdies in the opening round that helped USF finish the day in seventh place out of 16 programs.
The opening rounds of the Bulls’ final regular season event also saw Kyle Flexsenhar rise to the occasion. The freshman from Lake Mary, Fla., followed up his 72 with a 69 to pull into a tie for 25th place at 1-under.
Just a stroke behind Flexsenhar is Priyanshu Singh, who cut two shots off his first-round score with a 70 in the afternoon. The junior from Delhi, India is tied for 29th place at even par.
Host NC State (-25) has the lead and is followed in the top five by No. 15 Clemson (-23), UNCW (-12), UNCG (-11) and Maryland (-10). UNCG’s Jonathan Brightwell has the individual lead at 12-under.
