Bulls Face Memphis to Cap Regular Season Play
TAMPA (April 16, 2017) – The USF men’s tennis team will look to earn one last win as the take on Memphis at home and honor seniors Sasha Gozun and Vadym Kalyuzhnyy Monday April 17 at 1 p.m.
Last week the Bulls split a pair of matches in Texas with a 4-2 win over conference opponent SMU, and a 4-0 loss to No. 9 TCU. Senior Vadym Kalyuzhnyy leads the team in singles 13-4, with sophomore Alberto Barroso-Campos following close behind, 12-4. The Bulls boast three ranked singles players, No. 57 Gozun, No. 101 Barroso-Campos, and No. 112 Peter Bertran.
In doubles, Barroso-Campos and senior Sasha Gozun lead the squad, 10-3, and are ranked No. 35 in the nation.
The match will determine the standings for the Amerian Athletic Conference Tournament beginning Wednesday.
Scouting the Opponent
No. 34 Memphis brings a 13-6 record to Tampa, 2-1 in The American. The Tigers posted conference wins against SMU and Temple, and one conference loss to Tulane. They have two ranked singles players, No. 79 Ryan Peniston and No. 105 Andrew Watson. The Bulls and Tigers met last season where USF posted a 4-0 sweep at Memphis.
The USF men’s tennis team will head to the USTA National Campus in Lake Nona, Fla. for the American Athletic Conference Tournament beginning April 19.
