TAMPA, MARCH 6, 2017 – Take a look ahead at the week in USF Athletics and catch up on last week’s action:
No. 19 Football
This Week: USF got its spring started with an intense first practice Monday morning at the Morsani Complex… USF’s spring game is set for Saturday, April 15 at Corbett Stadium, the on-campus soccer home of the Bulls. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. and admission is free. Learn more HERE.
Need to Know: The priority ticket renewal period for all Bulls Club members runs through Friday, March 31. New season ticket sales for all fans will begin on Saturday, April 8. Deposits will be accepted prior to April 8. Flex plan packages and group ticket sales will begin on Monday, May 15. Women’s Basketball (24-7)
This Week: For the third straight season, USF will take on top-ranked UConn in the American Athletic Conference Championship final Monday at 7 p.m. in Uncasville, Conn. (TV: ESPN2).
Last Week: Third-seeded USF booked another trip to the championship game with a 63-58 win over then-No. 21 Temple on March 5… USF rallied past sixth-seeded SMU, 62-55, in the quarterfinals on March 4… Senior Ariadna Pujol scored 16 points in a 96-68 home loss to No. 1 UConn to end the regular season on Feb. 27.
Need to Know: Tamara Henshaw was named American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year and to the all-freshman team… Kitija Laksa and Maria Jespersen became all-conference first team selections. Jespersen also was named The American’s most improved player of the year. Learn more HERE… USF received 35 votes in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 poll.

Men’s Basketball (7-22)
This Week: No. 11 seed USF begins its American Athletic Conference Championship run with a first-round test against No. 6 seed UConn 8 p.m. Thursday in Hartford, Conn. The game will be televised on ESPNews. View the entire tournament schedule HERE.
Last Week: Geno Thorpe and Luis Santos combined for 35 points in a 72-60 loss to Temple in the Bulls’ home finale on March 5… USF led for more than 28 minutes before falling to UCF, 59-56, in the latest War on I-4 rivalry installment on March 2.

This Week: USF will look to extend its winning streak to 10 when it hosts Jacksonville on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. … The Bulls have a home game against Villanova on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. before playing a three-game home series against Valparaiso that begins Friday at 6:30 p.m. Saturday’s game is set for 6:30 p.m. and Sunday’s series finale begins at 1 p.m.
Last Week: USF swept Toledo in a three-game home series that started with the Bulls pulling out a 4-3 walk-off win in extra innings on March 3… Powered by an eight-run fifth inning, USF rolled to a 12-3 victory on March 4… USF put the finishing touches on its second series sweep in as many weeks with a 6-3 victory on March 5.
Need to Know: Junior Kevin Merrell was named to The American’s weekly honor roll after batting .417 (5-for-12) with two doubles, a triple and five RBIs against Toledo. Merrell also drew five walks and stole three bases… Senior pitcher Mark Savarese was recognized as the 2017 Institutional Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the American Athletic Conference. This Week: USF will play a doubleheader at home on Wednesday against Boston College (5:30 p.m.) and Penn (7:45 p.m.)… USF will play on campus and in Clearwater during the Under Armour Showcase this weekend. On Friday, the Bulls will take on Purdue (2 p.m.) and St. Joe’s (4:30 p.m.) at USF Softball Stadium. USF travels to the Eddie C. Moore Complex on Saturday to face Butler (2 p.m.) and Central Michigan (4:15 p.m.). USF heads back to campus on Sunday for a 4 p.m. game against Army.
Last Week: USF went 3-2 at the Under Armour Invitational on started with a 1-0 win over Georgia State on March 3. The Bulls finished up the doubleheader with a 2-1 loss to Syracuse. USF completed a doubleheader sweep on March 4 with a 6-2 win over Ball State and a 9-3 victory over Towson. USF fell to Villanova, 5-0, on March 5.

Men’s Tennis (4-4)
This Week: USF starts a six-match week with a test against No. 17 Baylor 6 p.m. Monday in Bradenton… The Bulls will play two matches Wednesday at home against North Florida (10 a.m.) and UNCW (3 p.m.)… USF begins its home spring break tournament against VCU on Friday at 2 p.m. USF will play a match Saturday at 11 a.m. (opponent TBD) before taking on Tulsa 1 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free at the USF Varsity Courts.
Last Week: USF rolled to a 7-0 victory over Michigan State at home on March 4.

Women’s Tennis (5-5)
This Week: USF will host Penn State on Thursday at noon and Penn on Saturday at 11 a.m. Admission is free at the USF Varsity Courts.

Next Event: In the outdoor season opener, USF will host the Bulls Invitational March 17-18 at USF Track and Field Stadium.

This Week: USF returns to South Carolina this weekend for the Charleston Coed Spring Intersectional.
Last Week: USF placed eighth out of 13 teams at the Old Dominion Women’s Intersectional over the weekend. Sarah Streater and Tiffany Nicholson finished third in the A Division. Delaney Brown and Kayla Burrows won two races and placed 10th in the B Division.
