USF Success Junior Zak Boggs Named BIG EAST Scholar Athlete of the Year Shantia Grace Leads Women's Basketball Win 2009 WNIT Yohance Marshall and Men's Soccer win 2009 BIG EAST and reach the Elite 8 of the NCAA Tournament
It isn't only USF football that has a ton of momentum behind it, it is the entire athletics department. 2008-09 was a banner year for Bulls Athletics. USF won BIG EAST Postseason Tournament Championships in men's tennis and men's soccer. The women's basketball team won the WNIT Championship against impossible odds that included four straight road games and beating Kansas in front of a sold out Phog Allen Fieldhouse. Coaches Lelo Prado (baseball) and Don Barr (men's tennis) were both named BIG EAST Coach of the Year. Perhaps the biggest individual honor of 2008-09 was brought in by men's soccer junior Zak Boggs, who was named BIG EAST Male Scholar Athlete of the Year. He is the only male student-athlete from the 16 member institutions to earn the award.
