Hernandez Named to Ray Guy Award Watch List

TAMPA, JULY 12, 2017 – Bay Area native Jonathan Hernandez (Bradenton) was named to the Ray Guy Award Watch list Wednesday as the National College Football Awards continued announcements of preseason candidates for national recognition in college football.

Hernandez joins senior center Cameron Ruff (Rimington), senior quarterback Quinton Flowers (Maxwell), senior cornerback Deatrick Nichols (Bednarik) and sophomore tight end Mitchell Wilcox (Mackey) among five Bulls named to national awards watch lists, the majority of which are being announced over the next two weeks.

Hernandez, a senior punter, was named to the Ray Guy Award Watch list for the second time after being added to the 2016 list in October of last season. The award recognizes the top punter in college football. Hernandez was terrific for USF in his first season with the Bulls after transferring from Florida State. He punted in all 13 games in USF's 11-2 season and his 25 punts placed inside the 20-yard line and 12 punts of 50-plus yards on the year both ranked second in the American Athletic Conference. Hernandez ranked seventh on USF's season chart with 2,597 punting yards on the year and posted a strong 41.2-yard average on 63 punts.
