USF Baseball Summer League Update
TAMPA, JULY 31, 2017 – A monster week and three USF baseball members remaining atop statistical categories highlights the final week of July for summer ball. Â
Northwoods League Update
Rising junior
David Villar (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) had an outstanding final week of July. He is riding a seven-game hitting streak entering Monday. Villar didn't just hit in each game last week, he had three multi-hit games and seven extra base hits. The third baseman went 13-for-34 (.382) with three doubles, four homers, 12 runs scored and 21 RBI.

He recorded five RBI on Saturday and Sunday and scored two runs in each of the last five games of the week. He hit his team-best ninth home run on July 24 with two RBI. He went 3-for-5 on July 27 with his 10th blast of the summer, scoring two runs and driving in four runs. After scoring twice and bringing home three men on Friday, Villar went a combined 5-for-8 over the weekend, homering in each game and producing the 10 RBI. Villar is tied for second in the Northwoods League with 12 home runs and sits fourth with 47 RBI.

Collegiate League of the Palm Beaches Update
Rising sophomore
Carson Ragsdale (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) played in three games last week for the Juno Beach Loggerheads. He recorded three hits with a run, a double, a homer and five RBI. Ragsdale hit a double and picked up two RBI on July 25, a game in which he pitched for the first time since July 15. He tossed 2.0 scoreless innings allowing just one hit with three strikeouts.
On July 27, Ragsdale went 2-for-5 with a homer and three RBI. He remains on top of the league standings with a .410 average, has six homers, five doubles, 17 runs and 23 RBI. On the mound, he has 23 strikeouts in 16.2 innings. Â
Florida Collegiate Summer League Update
Rising junior
Garrett Zech (Naples, Fla.) tallied three hits last week for the Altamonte Springs Scorpions in six games played. He scored four runs and hit his third homer of the summer on July 26. Zech scored three runs in that contest, walked and had a stolen base. Â
Coastal Plain League Update
Rising junior
Chris Chatfield (Riverview, Fla.) went 3-for-13 in four games last week for the Forest City Owls. He tallied three runs, a RBI and five walks. Â
About USF Baseball
The University of South Florida baseball team is one of the fastest rising programs in the country. The Bulls reached the NCAA Regionals in 2015 for the first time in 13 years and followed that success with a 42-19 record and second NCAA regional trip in three years in 2017. The Bulls earned just their second and third wins over top-five ranked teams with victories against then-No. 3 Florida State and at then-No. 5 Florida during the 2017 season. During the 2017 season, USF reached the 40-win mark for the first time since 1996 and entered the top-25 in the major collegiate baseball polls for the first time since 2013. The USF Baseball program has won five conference titles and the Bulls have made 12 NCAA appearances.
