TAMPA, AUG. 21, 2017ย โ USF will kick off the 2017 season this Saturday at San Jose State (7:30 p.m. ET on CBS Sports Network) holding the highest preseason ranking in program history.

The Bulls are ranked No. 19 in the Annual Preseason AP Top 25 Poll released Monday. The AP Top 25 Poll is selected by a national panel of sports journalists. The entire AP Poll can be seen here: ย http://collegefootball.ap.orgย .

Coming off a program record 11-win season, USF is also ranked No. 21 in the preseason Amway Coaches Poll announced earlier in August. USF's rankings in the AP and Coaches Polls equal the Bulls' highest preseason rankings ever in both polls. USF entered the 2008 season ranked No. 19 and 21 in the two polls, respectively.

The No. 19 ranking marks USF's 20th week in the top 20 of the AP Poll as the Bulls begin just their 21st season of football. USF finished the 2016 campaign ranked No. 19 in the AP Poll. It is the first time since 2008, and just second overall, USF has earned a preseason top 25 ranking. The Bulls rose as highly as No. 10 during week five of the 2008 season.

USF has eight players who are represented on 14 national award watch lists: senior quarterbackย Quinton Flowersย (Maxwell, Walter Camp, Manning, O'Brien & Unitas), senior punterย Jonathan Hernandezย (Ray Guy), senior running backย D'Ernest Johnsonย (Hornung), senior cornerbackย Deatrick Nicholsย (Bednarik, Nagurski & Thorpe), senior centerย Cameron Ruffย (Rimington), senior linebackerย Auggie Sanchezย (Nagurski & Wuerffel), senior defensive linemanย Deadrin Senatย (Nagurski & Outland) and sophomore tight endย Mitchell Wilcoxย (Mackey).
USF begins the 2017 season on the road atย San Jose State on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. EST on CBS Sports Network. The Bulls return to the Bay Area for their home opener againstย Stony Brook on Saturday, Sept. 2ย at 4 p.m. That game will air on ESPN3.

USF finished the 2016 season ranked No. 19 in the Associated Press poll with a school-record 11 wins following the program's fifth-ever bowl victory in the Birmingham Bowl. The Bulls' 11-2 record marked the fifth-best winning percentage in FBS football in 2016 and one of just 11 teams to reach 11 wins. USF set nearly 40 team and individual records in 2016, including team records for total yards (6,650), rushing yards (3,714), touchdowns (77) and scoring (569). Junior quarterbackย Quinton Flowersย was named the American Conference Offensive Player of the Year and led a school-record 10 players named to the all-conference team, six of which, including Flowers, will return in 2017.ย
