Bulls Post Six, Top 15 Finishes at Embry-Riddle Meet

RESULTS

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., SEPT. 16, 2017
 – Following a 13-day break from competition, the Bulls were eager to resume their season at the Asics Embry-Riddle Classic on Saturday and it showed in the results.

Starting at 7:20 a.m., the men's team raced ahead early in the 8k, notching four, top 15 finishes and second place overall at the meet. Senior John Weaver (Jacksonville) finished first among the Bulls and third overall with a time of 27:01.36. Junior Cash Tampa (St. John's, Fla.) wasn't far behind with a time of 27:46.92, the eighth best finish in the event.

On the women's side, freshman Rania Samhouri (Tampa) outpaced her fellow teammates, placing eighth in the 5k (20:25.12).

QUOTABLES:
Head coach Dena Reif on the course and the men's team success:
"This is one of the most challenging courses…we can't really look at times with how they competed. So I thought they did really well knowing more than half of the men's team was in the first 8k."

KEY STAT

  • Samhouri and Weaver are the top finishing Bulls in back-to-back meets to begin the season.
NOTABLE
  • Freshman Austin Camps (Melbourne, Fla.) and junior Sam Geiman (West Palm Beach, Fla.) also placed in the top 15 with times of 28:11.17 and 28:28.55, respectively.
  • Senior Sarah Hartman (Tampa) ran the 5k in 20:38.11, 10th overall.
  • Three freshmen made up the top six male runners for USF.
  • The women's team also saw three freshman in their top six.

UP NEXT:
The Bulls will travel to Gainesville, Fla. to compete in the Mountain Dew Invitational. The meet, hosted by the University of Florida, will begin with the men's 8l at 7:55 a.m. and be followed by the women's 5k at 8:30 a.m.
