TAMPA, Sept. 25, 2017 – The University of South Florida volleyball team plays its third-straight home contest Tuesday night in a non-conference match against Bethune-Cookman at 7 p.m. The match can be watched on Facebook Live.

The Bulls (4-7, 0-2 The American) and Wildcats (2-6, 0-0 MEAC) are meeting for the first time since 2012. USF owns a 3-0 lead in the all-time series and has yet to drop a set.
 
USF opened conference action over the weekend with two home matches against Cincinnati and ECU. Senior middle blocker Joli Holland (Dublin, Calif.) posted 20 kills, five total blocks and hit .455 in the two matches. Redshirt-junior middle blocker Clara Payne (Osteen, Fla.) totaled 19 kills, six total blocks and hit .415 over the weekend. Senior setter Alex Mendoza (Minneola, Fla.) recorded 82 assists and 25 digs.  
 
THE OPPONENT

Bethune-Cookman enters Tuesday led by their freshman outside hitter Jordan Jefferson, who has 109 kills on the season. Senior middle blocker Rakaya Neely leads the MEAC with a .364 hitting percentage. The Wildcats lead the MEAC with 12.06 assists per set and 2.33 blocks per set. Senior setter Phalen Clark leads the team with 217 assists.

NOTABLES
  • The Bulls are in the top-60 in the nation in aces per set (1.55) and digs per set (16.24).  
  • Mendoza has 349 assists this season and 2,534 for her career to sit seventh on USF's all-time list.
  • Five Bulls recorded double-digit kills on Sunday against ECU, marking the first time that has happened for the program since Sept. 5, 2015. 
 
KEY STATS
  • Senior outside hitter Priscilla Ehieze (Houston, Texas) still leads the Bulls with 90 kills on the year, followed by junior outside hitter Reagan Davey (Ocala, Fla.) with 84.
  • Payne leads the team with 36 total blocks and junior libero Maria McLamb (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) has a team-best 138 digs.
     
About USF Volleyball
In addition to 10 newcomers, USF returns a large core of talent for 2017, led by senior setter Alex Mendoza, who surpassed the 2,000 assist total in 2016 and posted a team-high 1,125 helpers. Redshirt-junior middle blocker Clara Payne finished second on the team with 340 points and senior middle blocker Joli Holland finished fourth with 251.5 points. The Bulls are guided by sixth-year head coach Courtney Draper.
