TAMPA, OCT. 20, 2017 – The USF men's soccer team looks to snap its two-match skid Saturday when it travels to Memphis in American Athletic Conference action. USF only has three remaining conference games and will take on the Tigers at 2 p.m. (ET) at the Billy J. Murphy Track & Soccer Complex on the campus of Memphis.
The Tigers split their time between two stadiums: Billy J. Murphy Track & Soccer and the Mike Rose Soccer Complex. USF will be only the second men's team this season to play at the Murphy Track & Soccer stadium since it became the home to the Tigers in August 2017. USF (6-5-1, 3-1-0 The American) is currently tied for second in league standings with No. 14 SMU (11-2, 3-1 The American). Each team has one loss, and has nine points, one win back from UConn (7-4-2, 4-0 The American). The Bulls lead The American with 63 corner kicks and are only second to Temple with 175 shots this season.
Adrian Billhardt (Berlin, Germany) continues to lead the Bulls with 1.36 points per game which rank fifth in the conference.
Notables
- USF is 14-3-3 all time against the Tigers and is 4-1-2 on the road.
- The Bulls' last trip to Memphis was Oct. 16, 2015 and they drew with the Tigers, 0-0.
- USF is four wins away from a 10-win season. The program has turned in a 10-win season every year since 2013.
On Dec. 18 Bob Butehorn was appointed the head coach the USF men's soccer program. A member of the University of Tampa's 1981 national championship team and a three-time conference coach of the year, Butehorn previously led Florida Gulf Coast University's men's soccer program to six conference regular season championships, four NCAA Tournament appearances and Top 25 rankings in five seasons since 2010.
The Bulls concluded the season as The American regular season champions and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. The Bulls finished the season with a 10-6-4 overall record and a 6-1-0 mark in the American Athletic Conference.
