USF Falls to No. 17 Butler in Overtime

BLOOMINGTON, IND., SEPT. 1, 2017 – In a neutral site matchup at the Adidas/IU Credit Union Classic, the University of South Florida dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to No. 17 Butler Friday night. The Bulls fell to 1-1 on the year.

Despite carrying a 2-1 lead into the final minutes of the match, the Bulls couldn't fend off a resilient Butler squad. In the 89th minute, Butler evened the score at 2-2, and ended the match with a golden goal in the 93rd minute on a penalty kick.

USF had an impressive first half, rattling off eight shots, six on goal. Bradley Farias (Indiantown, Fla.) scored his second goal of the season in the 10th minute on a cross from Adrian Billhardt (Berlin, Germany). Just a few minutes later, Billhardt scored from 10 yards out for his first goal of his career. Gonzalo Rodriguez (Coustituciou, Chile) sent a long ball to the right side and Billhardt curled it in from the far post.

The Bulls defense limited the Bulldogs to three shots in the second half, but couldn't fend off a final attack. Harrison Devenish-Meares (Sydney, New South Wales, Australia) made two saves in the loss.
